The
wealthy sailing history of the Succes started in 1909, when this
two-mast clipper was launched as a cargo ship for the first time.
The building was handled by shipyard Wed. A. Van Duyvendijk, whose
ships today are still regarded to be the Rolls Royces of the sailing
industry.
The ship, which was named Dependent, was built for mr de Waal and
sailed cargo until in 1938.
It was in these days that the first motor was placed into the boat:
a large 3 cylinder that produced 120 hp. During the Second World
War, the ship was moved to Norway and she returned to Holland in
1946. After an extensive renovation, it became used as a cargo ship
again, transporting predominantly sand and stones.
The third owner of the Dependent, Mr Kornet, used the ship as a
crane ship to transport sand and stones to the south of Holland.
In 1998, the ship was bought by Mr T. Winkel from Mr C. Kornet and
it was completely restored by a well-known shipyard in Harlingen
into one of the most state-of-the-art ships in the fleet. After the
renovation the ship was renamed the SUCCES.
We, Eveline en Wietse van Lingen, are the proud owners of the Succes
since 2004 and we hope to make much more history with our Succes.
